Health and Wellness Expectations

Health and Wellness Expectations

Our district is currently revising its health and wellness expectations to better align with the Nevada Department of Agriculture guidelines. It is the goal for our state and our district to provide students with healthier food alternatives. In order to remain compliant and avoid fines, all schools must adhere strictly to the state guidelines for recommended foods to be distributed until further notice.  This includes birthday treats, classroom celebrations, fundraisers, etc… It also includes before school activities as well as after school until 3:30. This is for all food distributed to students (this does not include personal lunches or snacks parents provide individual students – as long as it isn’t shared with classmates). Once the district has revised the WCSD Health and Wellness Policy to specifically address these circumstances, we will let you know. There is a list of approved food items on the WCSD website, or you can call the school to ask about permissible food items.   There will also be a F.A.Q.s sheet posted on the WCSD website in the next few days. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact Nutrition Services at 353-5930. Thank you for your support, we’re proud to have you as a part of the Cannan community, where our students try hard & do their best.  We believe they will succeed!!
